Fun fact: In his day, #WilliamMerrittChase was as famous as John Singer #Sargent. In 1883, Chase’s arresting “Portrait of Dora Wheeler” (1882-83), depicting one of his students, was shown alongside Sargent’s “The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit” (1882) at the prestigious Paris Salon.
