Happy birthday to artist Kerry James Marshall, who was born #onthisday in 1955. The DIA was proud to exhibit Marshall’s work in the “30 Americans” exhibition, which was on view from October 18, 2015 to January 18 of this year. He is known for large-scale paintings, sculptures and other objects that explore the effects of the Civil Rights movement and confront racial stereotypes. Read about the legacy of his decades-long career in today’s @NYTimes. #kerryjamesmarshall #30plusus Image: “Souvenir: Composition in Three Parts,” Kerry James Marshall, 1998-2000, plastic, glass, paper, wood, steel and framed video still.
