Living with a disability does not mean you must live a life

Living with a disability does not mean you must live a life without joy and meaning and happiness. I spent a transformative week this summer with people like Giorgi at the nongovernmental organization Hand in Hand in Tbilisi, Georgia, documenting the stories of people with disabilities leading meaningful lives because they were living in homes and not in large institutions. The goal of Hand in Hand is to create loving, healthy environments and get people out of large institutions and into homes so they can lead normal lives.
This is @amivitale on assignment for @opensocietyfoundations sharing work this week on the de-institutionalization of care for people with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities.
