Hello! @mrkdrf taking over LensCulture. I will be sharing with you some images from a few of my recent bodies of work. Be sure to follow me over on my personal account!
This is “Emergent #16” from my series “Emergence,” created while I was an artist-in-residence at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in 2014. While at the lab, I worked directly with ecologists and biologists, studying their practice in order to create work derivative of the scientific process and my experiences in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. “Emergence” explores the translation of our surroundings through the lens of scientific data collection and its subsequent analysis. Science is an abstraction of our reality: collected data and theories are translations and predictions of our sensory experience, and it is only through this abstraction that we can reveal new information about our surroundings (not to mention the curious existence that we experience every day).
