Market Diaries
A woman bought (hoarded) all the native lemons in the market today. She was in front of me, and I saw her huge sack filled with green lemons. I had to ask.
Me: What are you making with all that lime? (I thought she was baking pies)
Woman: I drink them as juice. Every single day. For the past 30 years. I had cancer.
Me: (I was about to say “how wonderful.” But didn’t want to offend her for cheering on her survival story. But that’s really how I felt. Thirty. Years. Ago.) Wow, amazing! 30 years ago?
Woman: Yes! And this kept me healthy. It never came back. I had breast cancer.
Her husband (Interrupts): You know why she’s cancer-free? It’s because she doesn’t stress herself out. She stresses me out. I get all of it.
We chuckle.
Woman: Don’t listen to him. He drinks this too. But with honey. Me, I drink it straight up. .

Notes:
I asked Patrick to buy some green lemon. But he said the woman bought EVERYTHING.
I love small talk with people in the market. The husband was former DTI USec Ordonez, who was also a mean salsa dancer and a painter.
They’re a lovely couple.
I love my market.
