NASA released composite video on Thursday showing stunning auroras on Jupiter. The auroras were captured by the Hubble telescope. The phenomenon occurs when light waves produced by the interaction of the planet’s magnetic fields with its atmosphere. It happens here, too, but the Jupiter auroras reach intensities over 1,000 times brighter than what happens on Earth. Jupiter takes center stage next week with the arrival of a NASA spacecraft built to peek through its thick, swirling clouds and map the planet from the inside out.
