Maka (left), got married at 16. She is the mother of a six months old child and is now once again pregnant. In this image, she waits the bus, to go back to her family in law house. She spends the day with her mom: even if her parents live only 8 km away from her new home, she sees them very sporadically. Since according to tradition, the girls move into their husband’s home, they often lose contact with their own family.
This is Myriam Meloni @la.meloni sharing a visual journey through the lives of Georgian girls and women, who were married at an early age, and a rare opportunity for them to speak out, in a country where early marriage is still sheathed in tradition. This work has been done jointly with journalist Elena Ledda
