Real talk: I’ve been struggling with my health going backwards again lately, and therefore some body image issues have begun to form again. It hasn’t been easy, I haven’t been very happy the last few weeks. My struggles with mental illness makes this all even harder, as sadness quickly turns into deeper and darker things. Without getting into too much detail, I wanted to share this because to keep myself from getting into a bad state, I’ve tried practicing a few things every day to get through this tough time, until my health is again sorted. Every night before I go to bed, I lie down and play some music, a song or two I like. I write down all the things that were good/ I enjoyed/ went well today. In the morning, I reflect upon yesterday’s good things and write an intention for the day, something to consider and aim for during the day. Something reasonable, like listen to people when they talk. Or enjoy moments in the sun. Or make as many people as you can laugh or smile or feel valued. Or genuinely smile more yourself, not forced smile. Without thinking about whatever it is about yourself or your life right now that’s maybe upsetting you, or isn’t quite right that you wish you could change, you can show yourself just how awesome you are, because you can go out and do these things and when you come home, you’ve got this list of things that went well or made you smile. Today wasn’t hopeless. Tomorrow won’t be either. Every day is a day filled with hope. And after all, being happy is one of the best things you can do for your health.
