“True health fundamentally means to be in tune with nature, both inner and outer.” – Sadhguru
This world can be crazy, loud, stressful and chaotic, for us adults but also for kids. We think it’s important to teach our children ways to cope with that in healthy ways. That it’s not only okay to seek solitude and quiet, peaceful moments to balance out the loudness, but that it’s necessary for our wellbeing. Just as playing, creative outlets, sleep, getting outside, physical activity, nourishing foods and social environments are all important for development and vibrant health, so too are quiet, reflective moments. Teaching children (and being an example of this) to listen to their inner voice, their intuition and connecting to their heart & soul will help them to develop a compass to guide them through life and on their individual path.
We don’t force our children to sit and meditate with us, that would be counter-intuitive. But they see us do it, they ask questions and sometimes, want to join in. It’s helped in times where they were having a meltdown, had rough day or they needed help winding down before bed. Other times meditating isn’t what they need but instead to jump and dance around to release energy, to run around outside or to sit at the table and draw pictures. We think it’s empowering for children to be given tools like these to help them figure out ways to support them {mind, body & soul} for whatever they need. Of course the conversations and language used to help them figure out and articulate their emotions is key too.
Do you meditate? Do you do it with your kids?
