The Chernobyl disaster shook the world in 1986 — and even after thirty years, the deserted town of Pripyat in Ukraine remains a nuclear wasteland overgrown with wilderness. Photographer Andrea Carroll ventured to the veritable ghost town this past May to capture haunting photos of a once-busy city where life stopped decades ago. After chronicling these peopleless places, Carroll is ready to release her images in a book about Pripyat — the result is a powerful record of the lasting effects of the world’s worst nuclear accident.
