The good thing about owning a studio is that you can allow people a space to work on themselves without judgment. It’s the way you carry yourself during class that shows the students it’s ok to try as hard as humanly possible, that it’s not embarrassing to fall or barely make it into a certain pose, that it’s completely normal to shake or to sweat while using muscles you’re not used to moving, that each and every shape is absolutely beautiful, that no matter what you look or feel like in that moment, your physical appearance is not who YOU are.
You can aim to be their daily reminder, and also your own, that there is so much more to life than what’s on the outside. Yoga has taught me that. I can go places during my practice that I’ve only ever otherwise seen glimpses of. Especially as someone who’s constantly ridden with anxiety. Yoga allows me and hopefully my students to feel a sense of belonging and comfort while on the mat. Everything else can slip away for a while. I cherish these moments with these ladies and gentlemen and I feel honored to be able to instruct groups like this.
