We’re sad to announce that Hana, our senior female sloth bear, has died. Keepers noticed that she was lethargic and did not have an appetite over the weekend, so veterinarians performed exploratory surgery and found tumors on her liver, bile duct and gallbladder. Given her poor prognosis and declining quality of life, they decided to humanely euthanize her. As a long-time resident of the Zoo and mother of two cubs, Balawat and Hank, Hana was a terrific ambassador for her species and will be greatly missed.
