You can be afraid – but do not build a life around it. I wrote about this earlier in the year and it sits with me better than any other piece I’ve written. It’s ok to be afraid. It does not say anything bad of you to be afraid. You’re not less of a person for feeling or for being afraid. But being fearful is an easy state to live in. If that last relationship didn’t work you might not want to trust again. You’ve been rejected at work so you don’t want to keep pursuing. Do not hold a lifestyle around the negatives. I’ve done it and it helps you only avoid potentially good things. The more terrible in this world you try to avoid, the more exceptional things you may also be turning down. This year swept me up, swallowed me whole, spit me out and chewed me on my way. It’s been an insatiable and beautiful year! Both horrific in its difficulty and priceless in its providing of grandiose experiences. And even as I was hit by a wave that took me 15 feet in, I returned to the Arctic where waves were just as high and crashing. I stood still in the damp moss and battering rain. And framed up the 35 to get this shot. It is fear and mistakes that teach us so much, do not be afraid to continue risking yourself. Risk is an inevitable part of any adventure you go on. Be afraid! Be curious! Live fully! Shot on Kodak Portra 160, Nikon F2, pushed.
